The project consisted of the expansion of the courthouse and the subsequent reconstruction of its existing portion to provide a well-integrated building with a total area of 12,500 sq.m. (134,500 sq.ft.). As a first step, the new 6,000-sq.m. (64,560 sq.ft.) four-storey building was erected to house modern courtrooms, detention rooms, judicial and administrative offices. Once the expansion was completed, the existing building was stripped down to the frame and rebuilt (envelope, electromechanical systems, interior fittings). The part of the building of heritage interest was brought up to standard while retaining the original envelope and overall look.
