The project, split into 5 distinct phases, consisted of the construction of a four-storey extension with a basement between two existing pavilions in operation including the demolition and the complete rebuilding of the hospital’s emergency ward. The works included the following: construction of mechanical and electrical rooms at level 0; construction of administrative premises, changing rooms and the upper part of the mechanical room at level 1; expansion of the emergency ward at level 2; construction of an empty shell at level 3 for future use; several major interventions in the occupied areas to bring the building in line with the new seismic standards; repair of the envelope, including the replacement of the curtain walls of the operating block; construction of a new ambulance entrance. The project covered the total area of 128,690 sq.ft. (11,960 sq.m.). The departments affected by the project included emergency, temporary hospital unit, operating block, medical imaging, research laboratories and the polyclinic.
